4 Summer Getaway Spots for Families
By: Alexander Sciola
Summer is quickly approaching, and for most parents, that is music to their ears. Pretty soon, the kids will be out of school, while parents plan a family vacation. For many families, this can seem like an overwhelming task as travelling always comes with uncertainties.
Amanda Terrigno has been working in the airline industry for 10 years and has a few recommendations for family summer vacation destinations:
Dominican Republic (Punta Cana): Terrigno says that Punta Cana’s popularity with families is largely due to the fact that most airlines have well priced flights heading there year-round. The Dominican Republic is known for its family friendly activities including kayaking, windsurfing and swimming with the dolphins. For resorts, Terrigno suggests Nickelodeon: Hotels and Resorts Punta Cana, as it provides fun and entertainment for all ages.
Mexico (Cancun/ Riviera Maya): Just like Punta Cana, Cancun and Riviera Maya are incredibly popular destination choices because of easy and affordable airline prices. Rich in history, Mexico is a cultural and culinary delight. For activities, Terrigno suggests visiting some of the country’s many water parks or perhaps stopping by some of the historical sites and museums. If you plan on staying in a resort, Terrigno says All Ritmo Cancun Resort and Water park (Cancun) and Barcelo Maya Grand Resort (Riviera Maya) are your best bets.
The Bahamas: With hundreds of remote islands within the country’s borders, The Bahamas is pure paradise. The Andros Barrier Reef is one of the country’s most popular attractions. The beauty of the reef is best seen via a snorkeling or scuba diving excursion. The famous Atlantis resort in Nassau is the place Terrigno thinks is the best for a family stay. Equipped with a water park on site as well as rooms for five, Atlantis certainly is an ideal choice for families.
Turks and Caicos: This small British territory has made a splash in the vacation market in recent years. The pristine beaches of Turks and Caicos are what sets this island apart from other popular destinations. The country is also known for their large variety of quality shops and restaurants. Despite its small size, Turks and Caicos contains many resorts. Beaches Turks & Caicos Resort Villages & Spa is the destination best suited for families, according to Terrigno. The resort contains over a dozen restaurants and is minutes away from the family-friendly Graceway Sports Complex.
